Portsmouth, New Hampshire-based High Liner Foods has introduced Simply Sauce Seafood Bites, a new frozen product range for the North American school foodservice market. The bite-sized portions of whole-grain, crunchy, breaded seafood are available in three varieties: salmon, pollock and shrimp.

Buyers have an option to receive each case of product with an Asian-style sweet dipping sauce featuring a combination of soy, chili pepper, garlic and spices. The bites are also available without the sauce should foodservice operators prefer to use their own sauces or serve the seafood bites in another way.

“Simply Sauce Seafood Bites are positioned to satisfy school foodservice directors’ need to offer students healthy choices and meet demand for great tasting and fun lunch options,” said Jim LaBelle, vice president of marketing for foodservice at High Liner Foods. “Our bite-sized seafood options are aligned with today’s trend towards more à la carte and grab ’n go lunch alternatives.”

Originally unveiled at the School Nutrition Association’s Annual National Conference over the summer, this new product release comes on the heels of High Liner Foods launching its Thank Goodness it’s Fish Friday (TGIFF) campaign in early 2015. TGIFF is designed to promote awareness of the health and sustainability benefits of eating seafood and encourages foodservice operators to offer seafood on Fridays, making it easy for students to incorporate fish dishes into their weekly diet.

Simply Sauce Seafood Bites are being positioned to provide school lunch menu makers with a flexible way to serve seafood, particularly salmon, to students in kindergarten to 12th grade. Salmon contains omega-3’s, which according to the American Heart Association have been shown to benefit heart health. Furthermore, the line meets USDA requirements for whole grains.
