The US Food & Drug Administration has announced that Frozen Whole Kernel Sweet Corn in private label packs is being recalled from Stop & Shop Supermarkets, Giant Food Stores and Martin’s Food Markets in the northeastern United States due to potential Listeria monocytogenes.

Shoppers are asked to discard or return the 16-ounce bags to the place of purchase along with a sales receipt, to receive a full refund. Each package has an identifying UPC code of 68826700676 and a “best by” date of October 2019. Consumers with questions may call Bonduelle, the supplier, at 1-877-990-2662.

Thus far no reports of illnesses have been received. Consumption of food contaminated with Listeria monocytogenes may cause listeriosis, an uncommon but potentially fatal disease. Healthy people rarely contract listeriosis. However, the bacteria can cause high fever, severe headache, neck stiffness and nausea. Listeriosis can also cause miscarriages and stillbirths, as well as serious and sometimes fatal infections in those with weakened immune systems, such as infants, the elderly and persons with HIV infection or undergoing chemotherapy.
