Nestlé Recalls Frozen Chicken Pizza and Lasagna in USA
Glendale, California-headquartered Nestlé USA Inc. is recalling approximately 267,024 pounds of frozen DiGiorno brand Tuscan-style Chicken Pizza produced at its plant in Little Chute, Wisconsin, and Stouffer’s Chicken Lasagna packed in a Springville, Utah, factory that may be contaminated with extraneous materials, the US Department of Agriculture’s Food Safety and Inspection Service (FSIS) reported on March 10.
The chicken lasagna ready meals, distributed in 96-ounce boxes containing 11 servings, were produced on December 21, 2015. The case code is 5355595915, and the “Best By” date is January 2018. Establishment number “P-9018” is visible inside the USDA mark of inspection.
Case codes for the 547-gram DiGiorno Pizzeria Tuscan-style Chicken Pizza subject to recall are 601752592 and 601852591. The “Best By” date is August 2016, and establishment number “P-5754” appears inside the USDA mark of inspection.
“We apologize to our retail customers and consumers and sincerely regret any inconvenience created by this recall,” Nestlé said in a statement. “We are working with both the US Food and Drug Administration and the US Department of Agriculture on this voluntary recall and will cooperate with them fully.
“We are recalling these products because they may contain small pieces of glass that may cause injury. Although our investigation is ongoing, we believe the source of the glass is spinach that was an ingredient common to the products subject to this recall. Nestlé USA is taking this action out of an abundance of caution after several consumers reported that they had found small pieces of glass in some of these products.”
Thus far there have been no confirmed reports of adverse reactions due to the consumption of the items subject to recall. Anyone concerned about an injury or illness associated with either the pizza or lasagna should contact a healthcare provider.
Consumers who may have purchased the recalled products are urged not to consume them, but instead to contact Nestlé Consumer Services by phoning 1-800-681-1676.
