Northamptonshire, England-based frozen food distributor Central Foods has supplemented its free-from range with authentic Moroccan, beetroot and sweet potato falafel bites. The kosher- and halal-approved products feature chunky chickpeas, herbs and spices.
“The demand for gluten-free and vegan options on foodservice menus continues to increase and the prediction is that plant-based foods are going to be one of the biggest trends for 2018,” said Gordon Lauder, managing director of Central Foods.
He added: “These Great Food falafels tick so many boxes because they are ideal for a wide range of diners, as well as fitting in with many of the tastes that are currently popular – such as increased demand for healthier foods and a big interest in street food.”
Falafels are versatile as they can be used in wraps or salads, with pasta or couscous, or on skewers – which is ideal for both sit-down and take-out settings. Meanwhile, high-end grocer Whole Foods Market forecasts that 2018 is the year that Middle Eastern fare hits the mainstream in Britain.
The three 22-gram defrost-and-serve falafel bites distributed by Central Foods fall into a number of free-from categories and are supplied pre-baked form. They have a defrosted shelf life of three days if kept under refrigeration, and are available in units of two x 700-gram packs.
