Palak Paneer and Other Entrées Join Saffron Road Line

The Saffron Road World Cuisine range of all natural frozen entrées has been extended with four new ready meals, bringing the entrée portfolio to 24 offerings.

The line extension of the brand comes as part of what the Stamford, Connecticut, USA-based American Halal Company describes as its “commitment to bringing globally-inspired cuisine to Americans.” Two of the dishes feature 100% vegetarian-fed, humanely-raised, antibiotic-free chicken. Another uses organic, firm tofu, and the fourth meal features hand-crafted Paneer cheese.

The new entrees are:

From the fields of Northern India, Palak Paneer was created during the Moghul period of Akbar. Served with Basmati rice, Saffron Road’s version features leafy spinach and protein-rich farmer’s cheese, with a mild mélange of spices, simmered to yield an exotic curry renowned for its heartiness and flavor.

The origin of this spicy Portuguese-Indian curry dish dates back to the 16th century spice trade. It has become a hearty mainstay of contemporary Indian cuisine, celebrated in song and savored by fans before soccer matches in England. Saffron Road’s offering, served with Basmati rice, is prepared with dark meat chicken, marinated with tamarind-infused sauce, cumin, hot Indian spices and yogurt, then slowly simmered for hours until tender and tangy.

In Japan, they’ve been making soba noodles going back to the Tokugawa period (1603-1867, also known as the Edo period). Soba was traditionally only for the elite Shoguns and Daimyo, feudal Japanese lords. Saffron Road’s recipe features thin buckwheat noodles topped with a mélange of crunchy vegetables and dark meat boneless chicken glazed in teriyaki.

This version of Thailand’s national dish utilizes authentic Thai rice noodles topped with organic, firm tofu, carrots and scallions in a peanut sauce. The recipe is in the process of being Verified Non-GMO by the Non-GMO Project.

“We are excited to continue our reach into authentic World Cuisine dishes,” said Jack Acree, executive vice president of Saffron Road. “Much of what we are releasing now is a direct result of consumer requests. While our protein-based entrees continue to sell at a rapid pace, there is a strong contingent of vegetarians out there who have asked more of us. Teriyaki is also a great Japanese flavor, and based on the success of our Korean entrees we wanted to extend our reach into Asia.”

Each of the entrees is halal-certified, and all except the Teriyaki Chicken meal are also certified as gluten free. They are available in supermarkets and other retail outlets for the suggested retail price of $5.69.
