Rumor Tweets Spark Free Publicity for McCain Marché Debut
As Mark Twain might have put it, reports of the pending demise of McCain Pizza Pockets in Canada have been greatly exaggerated.
Recent rumors and speculation about the coming discontinuance of the ironic cheese and tomato sauce-filled pastry snacks spread on social media platforms and amplified by press, radio and television outlets have been put to rest by an official statement from McCain Foods, as well as via a “Love Letter to Pizza Pockets Lovers.”
As it turns out, the company is rebranding the line McCain Marché Pizza Pockets as part of a soon to be launched assortment of McCain Marché frozen snack products.
“All of this online hullabaloo kind of ruined the surprise,” stated the “love letter” posted at its website advising that a 260-gram two-pack version of the product is in the works.
“That's right – the Pizza Pocket you thought you knew is still the same recipe, and I've even made some new flavor combo friends along the way. You'll meet them soon: Harvest Pockets and Protein Pop'ables,” continued the explanation. “I'm no longer just a plain McCain Pizza Pocket, I'm a McCain Marché Pizza Pocket.”
A more formal statement was issued to news organizations, as follows:
“Despite false social media reports to the contrary, McCain has no intention of discontinuing Canadians' beloved Pizza Pockets. We know how much Canadians love our Pizza Pockets. In fact, in the coming days consumers will see Pizza Pockets in a whole new way. With a new look but the same recipe and great flavors, Pizza Pockets are now part of an exciting new snacking line up that we're calling McCain Marché. Packed with wholesome ingredients and irresistible flavors, McCain Marché snacks are oven-baked, never fried, and come in a variety of choices to satisfy more tastes and cravings.”
In addition to Deluxe, Pepperoni and Three Cheese Pizza Pockets, the McCain Marché line-up includes: whole grain or rosemary sourdough Harvest Pockets, available in Roasted Chicken Club, Chicken and Broccoli, and Three Cheese and Spinach recipes; and Protein Pop'ables – bite-sized snacks, delivering 14 to 23 grams of protein per serving, available in Chicken Parmesan, Jamaican Beef and Italian Sausage varieties.
