Poppies International, Inc. of Battleboro, North Carolina, has issued a voluntary recall of Delizza Patisserie brand Belgian Custom Cream Mini Eclairs distributed in 50-count, 700-gram tubs, Mini Eclairs in 30-count, 400-gram containers, and Chocolate Enrobed Cream Puffs distributed in 30-count, 400-gram tubs due to potential health risks. The frozen products were made with custard powder containing affected milk ingredients supplied by a secondary supplier, Valley Milk Products LLC, due to the possible presence of Salmonella.
“Although no pathogenic bacteria have been found in any of our ingredients or in any of our products, we have decided to recall products produced using the affected ingredient from this supplier. No illnesses or adverse health effects resulting from these events have been reported to date,” said the company in a statement posted at its website and announced simultaneously by the US Food and Drug Administration (FDA).
Salmonella is a bacterium that can cause diarrhea, fever, and abdominal cramps, and most individuals recover without treatment. In some cases, diarrhea may be so severe that the patient needs to be hospitalized. The elderly, infants, and those with impaired immune systems are more likely to have a severe illness.
Items subject to the recall, all sold through retail stores, can be identified by lot numbers found on the side of each tub by the lid. The UPC and lot code numbers have been posted at the producer’s website: www.delizza.us.
Persons who have purchased or received any of the products should not eat them, but return them to the place of purchase for a full refund.
