T. Marzetti Recalls Private Label Frozen Biscuits in USA
As a precautionary measure, T. Marzetti Company is voluntarily recalling all “Best By” dates of certain private label frozen biscuit products that have been distributed in Alabama, Florida, Georgia, Indiana, Kentucky, Louisiana, North Carolina, Pennsylvania, South Carolina, Tennessee, Texas and Virginia. The reason for the recall is that they may have the potential to be contaminated with Listeria monocytogenes, an organism which can cause serious and sometimes fatal infections in young children, frail or elderly people, and others with weakened immune systems.
The products were distributed in 12- and 20-count retail packs under the following labels: Shur Fine, Southern Style, Value Time, Food Lion, Food Club, Laura Lynn, Lowes Foods, Marshall’s, Morning Fresh, Piggly Wiggly, Pick 5 and SW Grocers.
Although these baked goods are not ready-to-eat items and have baking instructions which, if followed, will reduce consumer risk, there remains some risk that the mishandling of the products prior to or without adequate baking may cause illness.
The Westerville, Ohio-based producer, a Lancaster Colony Corporation company, is working in coordination with the US Food and Drug Administration (FDA) and suppliers on this recall. Consumers with questions may have them answered by calling +1 866-837-2758 between the hours of 8 AM and 5 PM Eastern Time.
