Sysco Corporation has bought Pompano Beach, Florida-headquartered North Star Seafood for an undisclosed price. On February 23 it announced a deal to buy Brakes Group, one of Europe’s top broadline distributors, for $3.1 billion. Operating 196 distribution facilities serving approximately 425,000 customers, Sysco rang up sales of more than $48 billion in 2015.

“We are pleased and excited to welcome North Star Seafood to the Sysco family of meat and seafood companies,” said Tom Bené, the company’s president and chief operating officer. “With its high-touch reputation for serving customers, and deep relationships with more than 300 seafood suppliers worldwide, we believe we now can provide an even greater experience to Sysco’s customers in Florida and those who’ve enjoyed North Star’s services for many years.”

All North Star employees and management will remain in place, according to Bené.
