Frozen and smoked seafood specialist Vita Seafoods, a unit of Vita Food Products, has launched a “fun and engaging digital marketing campaign” inviting consumers to wish their loved ones a “Merry Fishmas” this holiday season. The idea is to encourage folks to make healthy choices by opting to eat fish over such traditional fare as of turkey, pork and beef. It is a cross-channel implementation, meaning that consumers can help their loved ones “stay fishy” this holiday season from any digital communications device, anywhere.

The “Merry Fishmas” campaign consists of a digital e-card and a recipe book filled with seafood holiday menu suggestions. Specifically, the book includes recipes for salmon, pickled herring and other seafood items.

The campaign, which may be accessed by going to http://fishmas.inc.ly/, is produced by Tagga Media Inc. The company has launched over 3,000 cross-channel marketing promotions on its platform – working with consumer brands across multiple categories that include retail, consumer packaged goods, grocery and produce products.

“Eating fish is a great way to stay healthy over the holiday season,” said Bill Zaikos, vice president of marketing for Chicago, Illinois, USA-headquartered Vita Food Products. “The ‘Merry Fishmas’ campaign focuses on encouraging consumers to have fun and flavor with their holiday diet choices, and to share them with others.”

According to a recent article in the Huffington Post, the average Thanksgiving or Christmas meal of turkey, stuffing and all the regular fixings weighs in at around 3,000 calories, more than most adults need in an entire day. Furthermore, studies show that the typical adult gains one pound over the holiday season and keeps it on throughout the year.

Given these statistics, Zaikos figures, “Staying Fishy this holiday season a offers a fun way to enjoy and indulge without the excess calories.”
