Deal to Merge Marine Harvest and AquaChile Fails

Bergen, Norway-headquartered Marine Harvest (MHG) reported on June 9 that its planned merger with AquaChile, initially announced via a stock exchange notice on January 19, has been terminated because the parties could not reach a joint final agreement.

The proposed deal called for a merger of Marine Harvest Chile with Empresas AquaChile SA, the nation’s leading producer of farmed salmon. The surviving entity would have conducted business as AquaChile and continued to be listed on the Santiago Stock Exchange on a stand-alone basis.

“MHG still believes in Chile as one of the global centers for salmon farming going forward,” declared the company in a prepared statement. Accordingly, development of farming assets in the South American country will continue through its wholly owned MH Chile subsidiary.
