FRoSTA Posts Solid 2016 Results, Driven by Brand Sales

Bremerhaven, Germany-headquartered frozen food producer FRoSTA AG recently reported annual sales of EUR 446 million for 2016, up by 5.9% over the previous year. Consolidated net profits amounted to EUR 21.6 million, compared to EUR 18.2 million in 2015.

Wildlachs in KraeuterrahmSales of FRoSTA brand products, which run the gamut from fish sticks, vegetables, fruits and soups to ready meals featuring seafood, chicken, red meat, pasta and rice, increased by an impressive 25.7%, according to IRI statistics. The fish segment, which advanced by a whopping 47%, netted the biggest sales gain.

Beyond the German home market, foreign revenues rose from EUR 189.1 million in 2015 to 199.3 million last year. In doing so, FRoSTA expanded its leading market position in Eastern Europe – particularly in Hungary and Romania.

Sales in the private label sector, however, were relatively flat at EUR 238.9 million compared to EUR 237.8 million in 2015. This result was attributed to “strong price pressure” exerted by retail customers.

On the investment front, FRoSTA dedicated EUR 26 milion to “future projects,” compared to EUR 14.4 million in 2015. The company’s work force at home and abroad edged up by 34 employees to 1,665 in 2016.
