Red’s Natural Foods, a Franklin, Tennessee-headquartered marketer of frozen Mexican food products, has announced the grand opening of its first manufacturing facility in North Sioux City, South Dakota. Over the next few weeks, all of Red’s products – natural and organic frozen burritos, burrito bowls, enchiladas and taquitos – will be produced exclusively at this state-of-the-art plant.

Reds Carintas burrito bowl“We have always valued quality above all else, and couldn’t be happier to have total control over our own production,” said CEO Mike Adair. “When I started Red’s, I wanted to bring natural, wholesome, and delicious flavors to the frozen food aisle and deliver on the promise of having ‘the best burrito – period.’ Having our own facility, complete with an R&D kitchen, is not only the natural progression of our company’s trajectory, it’s also critical to ensure that every Red’s product we put on freezer shelves has the very best ingredients, tastes amazing, and is made with great care.”

Red’s chose North Sioux City, located in the American heartland, to readily tap into a food manufacturing-savvy workforce, benefit from direct sourcing of quality ingredients, and have convenient access to logistics links needed to efficiently ship finished products to customers throughout North America.

Other factors for the decision to expand operations in South Dakota, and create over 40 jobs in the process, were incentives including government-sponsored REDI Fund low-interest loans and a reinvestment payment program that assists companies in offsetting upfront costs associated with relocating or boosting production in the state.

About Red’s

Before founding Red’s, Mike Adair sold mutual funds for six years. Finding work in the securities field unfulfilling, while appreciating ever more that his wife Paige’s tasty homemade burritos were pleasantly filling, he decided it was time for a career change. With the “tail-wagging approval” of their trusty dog, Red, in 2007 Mike launched Red’s Natural Foods using Paige’s original recipes.

Today Red’s is the fastest-growing brand in the frozen natural Mexican category in the USA, with listings at major retail chain stores including Kroger, Publix, Ahold, Sprouts and Wegmans. All products contain meat raised without added antibiotics or hormones, rBGH-free cheese and cage-free eggs. Select varieties are USDA organic.
