Luvo Inc., a Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada-headquartered frozen food company that sells chef-inspired, nutritionist-approved meals, entrees and side dishes on June 4 announced that Russell Wilson is its newest brand ambassador and investor. The National Football League (NFL) star quarterback for the Seattle Seahawks has signed up to help Luvo score more points in its drive to market products made with whole grains, fruits, vegetables and lean proteins.

“Healthy eating is crucial for peak performance,” said Wilson. “I believe this is an important message, especially for our youth, which is why I’m excited to be working with Luvo, so we can inspire and enable others to eat nutritious food and live an active lifestyle.”

Twenty-six year-old Wilson is a Super Bowl Champion, two time Pro-Bowl quarterback, and the 2012 Rookie of the Year recipient. While a leader on the field, he is also known for leadership off the field as well. After his father passed away from complications with diabetes at the age of 55, Wilson became an advocate for raising awareness among younger generations about the importance of healthy eating and staying active.

luvo-microwave-meals“Russell is not only a Super Bowl champion, he is a respected influencer and passionate leader for healthy lifestyle initiatives,” said Christine Day, chief executive officer at Luvo. “From his creation of the Passing Academy camp and through his own non-profit, Why Not You Foundation, Russell represents exactly what we support as a company and we’re honored to welcome him to our team.”

Wilson is the second professional sports personality from the United States to be recruited to the Luvo squad. Last year now retired New York Yankees baseball star Derek Jeter came on board as an investor and brand development officer. Like Jeter, Wilson owns an undisclosed amount of stock in the company, which is also backed by actress Jennifer Grand and the Goldman Sachs investment banking firm.

It has also led to Derek and me working together on The Players’ Tribune, another place where we can connect with our fans.”

Luvo offers a wide variety of globally inspired entrees such as Thai Style Green Curry Chicken and Nine Grain Pilaf, as well as pizzas, flatbreads and burritos. The range is available in the frozen food aisles of major retailers throughout North America, including Haggen, ShopRite, Kroger, Meijer, HEB, Publix and Safeway and more. The company’s products are also available on select Delta Air Lines flights and online at Amazon.com
