Nestlé Wagner has, after two years of construction, festively opened Europe’s largest pizza production plant. The new, 50 million euro facility near the old plant at Nonnweiler-Otzenhausen, Germany, will boost production capacity from  280 million to 350 million pizzas a year.

“With this ultramodern plant we’ve set the signals ahead of time for continuing our successful operations in the fast-growing international market for frozen pizza,” said Nestlé

Deutschland’s Chairman Gerhard Berssenbrügge before invited guests. Saarland’s Minister-President (Governor) Annegret Kramp-Karrenbauer cut the ribbon.

Wagner, Germany’s second-largest pizza producer, became a part of Nestlé in 2005. Since then production has increased 50% and its share of the frozen pizza export market has risen from 14% to fully one-third of output.  The factory meets noise and environmental standards, consumes less water and energy, and emits less CO2 than the old plant. Heat produced is reused as energy for the production process.
