Barry-Wehmiller Acquires Paris Packaging Firm

St. Louis, Missouri, USA-headquartered Barry-Wehmiller Companies, Inc. on December 10 announced the acquisition of Arcil SA, a Paris- based supplier of packaging technology for the dairy and food industry. The purchase, Barry-Wehmiller’s first within France, expands the its packaging platform to six separate operating companies and escalates the capital equipment and engineering consulting firm’s reach within the growing global yogurt industry.

Arcil, with $120 million in revenues this year, employs approximately 350 people between its two Paris operations. A world leader in Form-Fill-Seal (FFS) technology, its machines heat to convert plastic film into custom-formed containers that are filled and then sealed within integrated lines.

“Arcil’s expertise in providing cutting-edge, efficient packaging solutions is highly complementary to our diverse portfolio of packaging companies,” said Bob Chapman, Barry-Wehmiller’s chairman chief executive officer. “Their technological leadership and leading market position extend our capabilities in the global dairy market.”

Arcil represents Barry-Wehmiller’s 65th acquisition since 1987. Through its combination of acquisition and organic growth initiatives, the company expects 2014 revenues to reach approximately $1.7 billion. CEO Chapman predicts sales will surpass the $2 billion mark within two years.

Barry-Wehmiller is a global supplier of engineering consulting and manufacturing technology solutions in packaging, corrugating and paper converting across a broad spectrum of industries. Among its operating companies are HayssenSandiacre, a form/fill/seal technologies and services leader for more than 100 years, and MarquipWardUnited, Inc., a manufacturer of equipment for the corrugated and folded carton industries.
