Brazil’s Fabio Fonseca New Chairman of WFLO Board
The World Food Logistics Organization (WFLO) announced on May 31 that Fabio Fonseca of Jandira, São Paulo, Brazil-headquartered Friozem Armazéns Frigoríficos Ltda. was named the 2016-17 chairman of the WFLO’s board of governors during the trade association’s recent convention in Las Vegas, Nevada.
The WFLO is the research and education arm of the Alexandria, Virginia, USA-headquartered Global Cold Chain Alliance (GCCA), and dedicates itself to the development of food systems, specifically in relation to the safe, efficient, and reliable movement of perishable products in the international community. With a focus on feeding the world, WFLO organizes projects in developing countries through which GCCA members provide expertise in the building and enhancement of temperature-controlled warehouses, transportation and logistics services.
"Members of the Global Cold Chain Alliance already represent over one-third of the existing 5 billion cubic meters of coldstore capacity around the world," said Fonseca. "This presents an exciting opportunity to grow our membership base by enhancing our resources and building relationships with cold chain companies in new parts of the world."
Other new WFLO officers elected were Vice Chairman Nick Pedneault (Congebec Logistics, Québec City, Québec, Canada), and Treasurer Paul Henningsen (Henningsen Cold Storage, Hillsboro, Oregon, USA).
New board members tapped to serve three-year terms include Brian Kyle (Burris Logistics, Lakeland, Florida, USA), Kirk Peterson (Unisea Cold Storage, Redmond, Washington, USA) and Naudé Rademan (CCS Logistics, Cape Town, South Africa).
Steve Tippmann (Interstate Warehousing, Fort Wayne, Indiana, USA) was reelected to serve another three-year term as a board member, while Michael Jahncke (Virginia Tech, Hampton, Virginia, USA) was reelected to three-year term as the Scientific Advisory Council's representative on the WFLO board.
