Henningsen Cold Storage Co., a temperature controlled warehousing and transportation company in the USA, recently received Safe Quality Foods (SQF) Level 2 certification for its Portland, Oregon facility. The fifth generation, family-owned operation has roots dating back to 1923.

Administered by the Food Marketing Institute and recognized by the Global Food Safety Initiative, SQF is a meticulous food safety management system that allows safety and quality mechanisms to be verified and validated throughout the food supply chain. It is recognized by retailers, foodservice operators and regulatory agencies around the world and is the only Global Food Safety Initiative (GFSI) standard offering a separate approach that incorporates a quality certification component.

“As SQF is implemented across our various locations, we have come to acutely realize that it is a strong platform to enhance our competencies as well as drive us towards excellence. This is a direct benefit, not only for food safety, but also operational practices in ensuring customer and regulatory requirements,” said Sripriya Agaram, the company’s food safety manager. “We are very proud of the Portland facility’s achievement of a 99/100 score and excellent grade. This is a testament to the team’s leadership and drive”.

Colin Longmuir, general manager of the Portland warehouse, added: “Attaining SQF Level 2 certification is an exciting achievement for our team. There was a lot of hard work from the whole group that went into this accomplishment. We are proud to be recognized for the steps we take to ensure our customer’s products are handled with care and stored in clean, food-safe environments.”
