Lineage to Nearly Double Capacity at Texas Coldstore
Lineage Logistics has broken ground for a major expansion to its Sunnyvale warehousing and food distribution operation in Dallas County, Texas, that will nearly double pallet capacity at the site. The robotics-enhanced facility will reportedly have the “largest throughput capacity of any comparable location the world” once up and running in 2019.
The construction project will add approximately 94,000 square feet to the existing 311,885-square-foot location and have the ability to house roughly 24,000 additional pallet positions. Lineage estimates that nearly 30 new jobs will be created to support operations.
The expansion is in line with Lineage’s strategy to operate as the “most innovative as well as the largest automated solution provider in the temperature-controlled warehousing industry,” according to Greg Lehmkuhl, the company’s president and chief executive officer.
“We are committed to disrupting the temperature-controlled supply chain through the use of new technology, applied sciences, and innovative thinking,” said Lehmkuhl. “This expansion is another example of that commitment, and we are thrilled to deploy a number of dynamic technologies to help preserve, protect and optimize the distribution of the food products our customers entrust to us.”
The warehouse will be Lineage’s first fully automated development in North America and is designed to support maximum flexibility and responsiveness. Implementing a process called “Dynamic Profiling,” the facility will have the ability to adapt to a wide range of client needs in Sunnyvale over time. Its automated storage and retrieval systems technology will move product seamlessly through a nine-level, 100-foot ceiling location, while the significant corresponding increase in storage density will greatly reduce energy consumption.
