Primus Builders is wrapping up construction of a new 420,000 square foot public refrigerated warehouse (PRW) for Lineage Logistics in Colton, California. The client is one of the USA’s largest operators of cold storage logistics facilities.

The fast-track design-build project was managed in two phases. The first involved construction of a 35°F convertible cross dock and installation of eight mini penthouse cooling units, while the second phase centered on construction of the freezer and cooler. Temperatures in these spaces range from -10°F to +55°F. Cranes were used to install seven large penthouse cooling units on the roof to provide required cooling power.

Features of the new facility include:

  • 134 dock positions
  • Eight banana rooms (with potential for 10)
  • Three two-story support offices
  • Two one-story shipping/receiving offices
  • Exterior concrete totaling 900,000 square feet
  • LED lights in freezers
  • Shrink compensating floors
  • Battery handling room with opportunity charging stations

LineageLineage Logistics’ commitment to sustainability was taken into account throughout the project, as Primus worked closely with the company to achieve its LEED goals. Rainwater management, local sourcing of raw materials, construction waste management and use of low emitting materials are examples of this.

“We’re now looking forward to our next project with Lineage Logistics, a public refrigerated warehouse about to break ground in Charleston, South Carolina,” said Erik Gunderson, project executive and executive vice president at Woodstock, Georgia-headquartered Primus Builders.
