Major Moy Park Investment in UK Promises 100 New Jobs
Moy Park, the largest poultry meat producer in Northern Ireland and one of the 15 biggest food companies in the United Kingdom, has announced that it will spend £10 million to upgrade its Ashbourne Hatchery and Processing facility in England’s East Midlands. The investment, which will create approximately 100 new jobs, will enable the company to boost processing capacity to over a million birds per week with the installation of a new cutting line, processing equipment and refrigeration technology.
Alan Gibson, Moy Park UK & Ireland director, commented: “This is a really exciting development for Ashbourne, which will see the hatchery and the factory transformed into state-of-the art facilities employing the most technologically advanced equipment. It will also ensure that we are well placed to meet increasing consumer demand for locally sourced, high quality poultry products.”
The company, a unit of Sao Paulo, Brazil-headquartered JBS, has 14 processing and manufacturing plants in Northern Ireland, England, France, the Netherlands and the Republic of Ireland with capacity to process 240 million birds annually, in addition to packing approximately 270,000 tons of food per year. Its product portfolio is comprised of a variety of breaded and frozen foods as well as fresh meats, ready-to-eat meals, pre-cooked meals, vegetarian foods and desserts. Clients include major restaurant chains and retailers in the United Kingdom and throughout continental Europe.
