Contamination Concern Prompts Andouille Sausage Recall

Elon, North Carolina-based San Giuseppe Salami Co. by Giacomo is recalling approximately 832 pounds of ready-to-eat frozen Andouille Sausage products that may be contaminated with extraneous materials, specifically metal, the US Department of Agriculture’s Food Safety and Inspection Service (FSIS) announced on June 24.

The vacuum-packed, individually-sealed packages subject to recall, produced on May 14, have “Sell By” dates of 11/10/2019 printed on case labels and establishment number “EST. 21556” inside the USDA mark of inspection. Shipments were dispatched to retail and institutional locations in Greensboro, North Carolina.

The producer contacted FSIS after receiving a report that a consumer found a piece of a metal ring in the product. There have been no confirmed reports of adverse reactions due to consumption of the sausages in question.

FSIS is concerned that some of the products may be in institutional and consumers’ freezers. Persons who have bought the sausages are urged not to consume or serve them. They should be thrown away or returned to the place of purchase for a complete refund. Questions should be directed to Giacomo’s Plant Managers Francisco Grijalva or Giacomo Santomauro by telephoning +1 336-586-7003 or sending an e-mail to Francesco@sgsalami.com or Giacomo@sgsalami.com.
