Sapmer Sashimi Tuna Fillet, which may be served raw as well as cooked, is one of four frozen products among 10 finalists competing for SIAL China Innovation 2017 awards. Gold, silver and bronze prize winners will be announced during a special ceremony held from 3:30-5 PM on the first day of the May 17-19 show at the Shanghai New International Expo Centre.

TunaAhi tuna, caught in the Indian Ocean by the Mauritius-based Sapmer fishing fleet, is characterized by particularly tender flesh. The premium-grade fillets are deep-frozen at sea and maintained at -40°C to preserve quality. Visitors to SIAL China are invited to see and sample the tuna at Booth W3 E 074.

Two Chinese ice cream makers and an American producer of fruit and vegetable blend lollies are the other frozen product contenders.

YiliInner Mongolia Yili Industrial Group is in the running with its Chocliz Qixuan Mint Chocolate Crisp Layer + Tiramisu Ice Cream offering. The Tiramisu ice cream bar features a colorful mint-flavored coating made with Belgian chocolate.

Handing out samples from Booth E5 F 062 will be representatives of the Hohhot-headquartered company, which recently announced its intention to bid for Danone’s majority stake in Stonyfield, an American organic yoghurt business that rang up sales of $370 million last year.

Qingdao Cool Rush bananaFive flavors of ice cream in drink pouches from Qingdao Ruicheng International Trade Group, which produces a wide variety of frozen products, are also in the running. Convenient packaging was a factor that swayed judges to short-list the range of Cool Rush brand banana, orange, yoghurt, milk and mango, which may be checked out at Booth E3 D 048.

Last but not least among frozen product contenders is the Fruit & Veggie Pops range of retail six-packs from New York City-headquartered Ruby’s Naturals Inc. Made with organic ingredients, the GMO-free product line is enriched with probiotics. Among the blends available to taste at Booth W1 A 056 will be Meteorite Mango, Gravity Grape and Galaxy Green.
