Record SIAL China Attendance; Frozen Tuna Strikes Gold

The figures are in for the SIAL China trade show which recently took place in Shanghai, confirming that a record number of visitors and exhibitors attended the three-day event. Altogether, 3,200 exhibitors (+10% vs. 2016) presented their latest products and food innovations from 67 countries, attracting 101,134 visitors (+31%). The exhibition encompassed 149,500 square meters of space (+18%) within 13 halls.

ahi tuna gold winnerThis year’s Gold Award in the SIAL Innovation competition went to Mauritius-based Sapmer for its Sashimi Tuna Filet. The premium-grade ahi tuna product is deep-frozen at sea and maintained at -40°C to preserve quality.

Organized by Comexposium, SIAL China is part of a global network of shows dedicated to the food and beverage industry. In addition to the Shanghai fair, it promotes six other events (SIAL Paris, SIAL Canada – Montreal and Toronto, SIAL Middle East, SIAL ASEAN Manila and SIAL Interfood in Jakarta) that bring together 14,000 exhibitors and 330,000 visitors from 194 countries.
