AFFI Applauds Nutrition Facts Labeling Deadline Extension

American Frozen Food Institute (AFFI) President and CEO Alison Bodor has commended the US Food and Drug Administration’s (FDA) for its decision to extend the compliance date for label changes to the Nutrition Facts Panel (NFP). This gives frozen food and beverage makers until January 1, 2020, to implement changes to the NFP.

“We are committed to updating the NFP and providing consumers with the information they need to make informed choices. This additional time will help AFFI’s members, especially our small and medium-sized companies, make these changes and also lessen the financial burden of doing so,” said Bodor.

Meanwhile, AFFI is encouraging FDA and the US Department of Agriculture (USDA) to collaborate to align the compliance dates for the NFP and the Biotech Labeling regulation so that companies can be most efficient with their resources and only re-label packages once.
