DITP Reports Brisk Business at THAIFEX Trade Show

The 2015 edition of THAIFEX-World of Food Asia generated over 8.28 billion baht of business, according to Nuntawan Sakuntanaga, director-general of Thailand’s Department of International Trade Promotion (DITP). In addition, business-matching sessions on Thaitrade.com reached 174 partners, and were expected to generate trade worth more than 75 million baht.

The numbers of food industry businesses that participated in the May 20-23 exhibition in Bangkok increased by 13.9% compared with last year, as 1,675 exhibitors across 16 sectors were on hand. Almost half of them hailed from outside of Thailand, and the number of trade visitors topped 35,000.

Among them were Alfredo Enterprise Co. Ltd., Surapon Foods, Inter-Oceanic Resources Co. Ltd. and CP Merchandising Co. of Thailand; Sinochem Qingdao Food Co. and Fujian Fulong Frozen Food Co. Ltd. of China; Thong Siek Food Industry Pte Ltd of Singapore; Good Morning Foods of Korea; PA Food Industries Sdn Bhd of Malaysia, and Camanchaca Limited of Japan.

“DITP will continue promoting agricultural and food industries by launching marketing strategies, expanding new marketing channels, and encouraging Thai manufacturers to focus on producing quality products and improving their seals to increase consumers’ confidence,” said Sakuntanaga. “The DITP has aimed at pushing Thailand to become the center of food and food-related technology and services.”

Next Stop: Guangzhou
Meanwhile, DITP has organized a Thailand Halal Pavilion at the Guangzhou International Food and Ingredients Fair 2015 (GIFMS), which takes place China from June 11-14. The government agency is working to raise the global ranking of Thai Halal businesses from its current 13th position to enter the top five by 2020.

“The department will emphasize three categories – food, clothes, and cosmetics and spa products – by focusing on building brand image, research and innovation to support new forms of Halal products, encouraging Thai business operators to meet universal standards in manufacturing as well as selling and providing services before exporting to international markets,” said Sakuntanaga.

The DITP projects that the total export value of Halal products will reach US $6,100 million in 2015, representing a 5.1% growth, she added.
