Saffron Road has expanded its premium frozen entrée range with the introduction of four new Bowls fish-based ready meals. This raises its World Cuisine product portfolio count to 27 authentic, chef-inspired epicurean quality dishes.

All four of the meals are made with wild-caught fish from Alaskan waters. Three feature pollock, while the fourth is a salmon dish, as detailed below.

Sesame Ginger Salmon with White Rice

Inspired by authentic Japanese recipes, this hearty fish is portioned and immersed in a spicy and sweet sesame ginger sauce. It is then surrounded with crunchy vegetables on a bed of rice.

Lemongrass Basil Fish with Rice Noodles

Tender and light, this dish features an authentic Thai recipe of lemongrass and basil to create a complex sauce that nicely sets off crunchy vegetables and tender fish on a bed of rice noodles.

Thai Red Curry Fish with Rice Noodles

Promoted as a combination of Alaskan seafood with a Thai tang, the dish features medium spiced Panang red curry paired with pollock in a bowl filled with rice noodles, red bell peppers, green beans and scallions.

Masala Curry Fish with White Rice

Pairing pollock with Masala curry sauce from the Himalayan Mountains of Kashmir, the recipe is described by the producer as “a celebration of sweet and spicy flavors straight from the bazaar.”

“Pollock and Salmon are a good source of lean protein and low in saturated fat. They’re also a good source of vitamin D and, most importantly, Omega 3 fatty acids,” said Adnan Durrani, chief executive officer of Stamford, Connecticut-based American Halal Co., which markets Saffron Road products. “We are truly excited about our debut into the fish entrée category. These bowls offer a variety of better-for-you lean protein options.”

In addition to complementing the brand’s culinary appeal, the expansion is also aimed at broadening Saffron Road’s attraction among consumers on three levels, according to Durrani.

He explained: “First, by being the only all natural halal-certified fish entrée available nationally. Secondly, by attracting baby boomers looking for meals rich in Omega-3, which is known to improve heart and brain health. And lastly, by increasing user occasions for our core base of millennial consumers, who look to Saffron Road for clean label meal solutions that fit into a healthier lifestyle.”

Jack Acree, the company’s executive vice president, was keen on further making the case for its latest premium products in the frozen food case.

“The best quality seafood is often frozen because the quality cannot be improved once it leaves the water – it can only be maintained,” he stated. “Saffron Road suppliers flash-freeze fresh fish, resulting in a product that tastes every bit as fresh as the day it left the water.”

Acree added: “But we don’t just stop at great tasting products. We are also in the process of working with the Marine Stewardship Council on supplier sustainability, and expect to have our products certified in the coming months.”

All four of the new offerings are gluten free as well as halal certified. Launching nationally this month, they are now available at Whole Foods Market outlets and other retail stores. The suggested retail price is $5.69.
