Ready to step into your pierogy era? For over 70 years, Mrs. T’s Pierogies, the largest producer of frozen pierogies in the United States, has spelled pierogy with a “Y” because it’s more than just a letter – it’s one of the reasons that makes Mrs. T’s and National Pierogy Day unique. That’s why in celebration of occasion on October 8, the Shenandoah, Pennsylvania-headquartered company rallied its pierogy squad to rep the “Y” loud and proud, and one lucky customer who pledges to add a “Y” to their name will be rewarded with a $10,000 prize.
Starting on October 1, fans started heading to the Sweepstakes post on @mrstspierogies’ Instagram and pledge to swap an “I” in their name for a “Y” (or simply add a “Y”) for a chance to win $10,000 and exclusive merchandise, plus earn bragging rights as the brand’s MVP (Most Valuable Pierogy-Lover).*
“National Pierogy Day is our favorite time of year to celebrate the joy pierogies bring to mealtime,” said Alyssa Panzarella, director of marketing at Mrs. T’s Pierogies, which produces approximately
600 million pierogies a year.
National Pierogy Day, which became official in the USA during 2008, and recognizes the day in 1952 when Mrs. T’s Pierogies founder Ted Twardzik Sr., the son of the Mrs. T, made his first pierogy sale to his local grocery store in Pennsylvania. The day recognizes pierogies, which are small dumplings stuffed with creamy mashed potatoes, cheese and ingredients.
