At long last, the SIAL food innovation exhibition will reopen its doors at the Parc des Expositions de Paris-Nord Villepinte on October 15 and remain open for business through the 19th. This follows the unfortunate cancellation of the biennial international B2B food trade fair in 2020 due to the life threatening Covid-19 (SARS-CoV-2) pandemic, which marked the first time since debuting in 1964 that the show did not go on as scheduled.
Approximately 7,000 exhibitors from 126 countries will display their product lines within the spacious premises during the much anticipated event, which is expected to be visited by upwards of 300,000 food industry professionals from around the world over its five-day duration.
SIAL 2022 Innovation Grand Prix winners were announced prior to the show’s opening, and not surprisingly frozen food products fared well in the fierce competition, which this year attracted over 1,800 entries.
“The 2022 Awards are all the more exciting because food industry stakeholders around the world are driving innovation to meet new demands for change,” said SIAL CEO Nicolas Trentesaux. “So more than at any time in the past, we want to shine a spotlight on initiatives like these and encourage industry stakeholders to embrace change and transition to a healthier and more responsible food industry model, particularly through our own collective ‘Own the Change’ movement.”

The Les Io’Dés Zalg brand frozen seaweed cubes for pan-frying was awarded the top Frozen Products prize. Launched in April of 2022, the cubes are made by Marche & Co. from macro algae-rich iodine, fiber and minerals sourced from Brittany.
The Fruits & Vegetables Award went to 100% Fresh Frozen Wolffia, produced by Amphur Muang, Ratchaburi Province-based Thai Count Public Company. Launched in July of this year, the product features water lentils loaded with vegetable protein, fiber, minerals and vitamins.
Taking the Dairy Products & Ice Cream Award was Privas, Auvergne-Rhone-Alpes, France-headquartered Clément Faugier for its Chestnut Cream Ice Cream with Chunks of Candied Chestnuts (Glace a la Creme de Marrons) offering, which also debuted in July of 2022.
