With America’s 250th birthday celebration on July 4th just around the corner, McDonald’s USA is bringing back a fan-favorite made for slowing down and savoring the summer season: Fried Apple Pie.

The all-day menu item, which will return to restaurant menus on June 23 for a limited time, features the fast food chain’s signature filling made with 100% American-grown apples, wrapped in golden crunch and flaky fried crust.

A Classic Since the ’60s
The Fried Apple Pie started as a family recipe. Back in the 1960s Litton Cochran, a McDonald’s restaurant owner/operator in East Tennessee, created a fried apple hand-held pie. It became a local favorite and eventually a McDonald’s classic.

“There are certain things that just take you back – and the Fried Apple Pie is one of them. It’s something that people love and remember from growing up.” said Eric Cochran. “When Ray Kroc was trying to come up with a dessert for McDonald’s, my grandad suggested a Fried Apple Pie as a classic that people would love. My grandmom, Jo Cochran, spent months perfecting the recipe. Bringing the product back for fans this summer to celebrate America’s 250th just feels right.”
