Gias Foods is recalling two lots of its bettergoods brand Authentic Italian Lemon Alfredo Fettuccine due to possible contamination with Listeria monocytogenes. The frozen product was distributed to Walmart stores across the USA, and no illnesses linked to consumption have been reported to date.
Listeria monocytogenes can cause serious and sometimes fatal infections in young children, frail or elderly people, and others with weakened immune systems. Although healthy individuals may suffer only short-term symptoms such as high fever, severe headache, stiffness, nausea, abdominal pain and diarrhea, infection can sometimes cause miscarriages and stillbirths among pregnant women.
Made in Italy, the recalled 22 oz product is packaged in yellow plastic bags bearing UPC# 194346442706, marked with lot # L6079C or # L6080C with an expiration date of 09/19/2027 or 09/20/2027 stamped on the back of packaging.
The recall was the result of a routine sampling program conducted by the Washington State Department of Agriculture and Florida Department of Agriculture and Consumer Services, which revealed that the finished products may contain the bacteria. The New York City-headquartered company has ceased distribution as it along with the US Food and Drug Administration (FDA) continue their investigation as to what caused the problem.
Consumers who have purchased the above described packs of bettergoods Authentic Italian Lemon Alfredo Fettuccine are urged to return them to the place of purchase for a full refund.
