Bells of Lazonby, a free-from baked goods company, is launching three plant-based frozen tarts under its We Love Cake brand into British foodservice market next month to coincide with Veganuary 2022. The new Lemon, Chocolate and Salted Caramel (aka Caramelicious) flavors join the family-run enterprise’s already well established Caramel Shortbread offering.

The range is vegan, gluten, wheat and milk free, and all products are individually wrapped. Allergens and ingredients are fully declared on the back of packs to help caterers comply with Natasha’s Law.

“We see these freeze-thaw tarts really opening up the range to restaurant-ready, plate and serve desserts,” said Josh Boydell-Smith, head of marketing. “There’s no compromise on taste, and these products challenge pre-conceptions around free-from bakery.”

He added: “Growing our portfolio into new exciting occasions gives end users the ability to offer tasty gluten free versions wherever they are needed. The cakes are registered with Coeliac UK and Vegan Society, and declared as suitable for those with coeliac disease.”

Made in the English village of Lazonby on the edge of the Lake District (Cumbria), all We Love Cake products are produced in small batches and hand finished by skilled bakers. The latest offerings are available to the UK wholesaler market exclusively distributed by Central Foods in frozen cases of 12’s (Tarts) and 18’s (Caramel Shortbread Slices).

Established in 1946, the company produces artisan breads as well as cake slices for other foodservice and retail markets. In addition to its We Like Cake label, other brands include Bells of Lazonby, Bells & Whistles and The Village Bakery Melmerby.
