Birds Eye is expanding its Captain’s Discoveries frozen seafood range with two new products: Battered Lemon & Parsley Prawns and Classic Breaded Prawns. The debut aims to elevate everyday meal occasions in the United Kingdom, whether it’s a starter or a meal ingredient.
Frozen seafood is the second largest sub-sector within Britain’s frozen fish category, worth £297 million [Nielsen 52-week value sales through July 12, 2025], just behind the frozen coated fish category. With frozen seafood holding 44% household penetration, according to Kantar statistics, this launch presents a good opportunity for retailers to attract new shoppers to the frozen aisle. Both products are ASC-certified, which will appeal to a younger demographic that typically under-indexes in the frozen fish category.

The new Captain Discoveries prawn products will be available for £4 each in Tesco stores starting September 8, and more widely across the grocery channel from the end of the month onward.
Owned by Woking, England-headquartered Nomad Foods, the UK’s no.1 retail branded frozen food company, Birds Eye has been in business for more than 75 years. In addition to fish and seafood, its wide assortment of offerings includes chicken and beef dishes, vegetables, potatoes and meat-substitute ready meals.
