Time was when McDonald’s was, among other things, the paramount exporter of American fast food concepts to the world. Today, with the Golden Arches in place at more than 37,000 restaurants in 120 markets around the globe, it may still be No. 1. But these days the USA-headquartered QSR giant is also a keen importer of foreign fare. One need only check out the menu at its flagship operation in Chicago’s West Loop neighborhood to savor the international flavor.
“Customers have expressed interest in items from McDonald’s restaurants located in India, and we’re excited to offer them the opportunity to try the long-time vegetarian favorite, McAloo Tikki,” said McDonald’s owner-operator Nick Karavites. “The toasted bun is filled with a veggie patty made with potatoes, peas and seasoning reminiscent of samosas; topped with red onions, tomato slices and an eggless creamy tomato mayonnaise.
Additional items featured on the global menu are:
Chicken McMuffin with Egg, which has proved popular as a breakfast item in Hong Kong, China, and Singapore. The sandwich starts with a toasted English muffin, topped with a McChicken patty, a fresh cracked egg, American cheese and mayonnaise. It has also been a hit among consumers in Egypt, Saudi Arabia and New Zealand and other countries.
The Cheddar BBQ Bacon Burger from Australia. It boasts a third-pound Angus beef patty, accented with McDonald’s proprietary Angus seasoning, topped with two slices of white cheddar cheese, two slices of bacon, grilled onions, mayonnaise and BBQ sauce, served on a toasted artisan bun.
From Canada, the Tomato Mozzarella Chicken Sandwich features seasoned chicken breast meat (served either grilled or crispy, as requested) topped with red onion rings, leaf lettuce, sliced tomato, mozzarella cheese and a creamy tomato and herb sauce – all inside a toasted artisan bun.
Deluxe Potatoes from France, seasoned potato wedges and served with a creamy dipping sauce.
Keep Calm, Caesar On Salad from Canada, a mix of premium lettuces, topped with shaved parmesan cheese, bacon bits, roasted garlic focaccia croutons and a choice of sliced grilled or crispy chicken; offered with Caesar dressing or another choice of dressing.
I’m Greeking Out Salad from Canada, a mix of premium lettuces, topped with sliced cucumbers, red pepper strips, crumbled feta, seasoned couscous, herb and garlic pita chips, and a choice of sliced grilled or crispy chicken; offered with Greek dressing or another choice of dressing.
Chocolaty Wafer McFlurry from Germany, McDonald’s vanilla soft-serve ice cream swirled with crushed chocolaty wafer candy bars and a choice of hot fudge or warm caramel swirled in the mix.
In addition to the rotating global menu, the restaurant also offers classic menu items including the Big Mac, the Beef Quarter Pounder with Cheese, Chicken McNuggets and french fries. Additionally, a Latin American-style dessert center dispenses sweet treats such as crunchy sugar cones topped with soft-serve ice cream available in vanilla, chocolate or twist varieties, as well as other sweet treats from around the globe.
The more than 6,000-square-foot global headquarters restaurant in Chicago is one of the latest McDonald’s Experience of the Future (EOTF) eateries designed to dramatically transform the customer experience with modern designs, self-order kiosks, table service, mobile order and payment, McDelivery with Uber Eats and enhanced hospitality. The restaurant also features outdoor seating, and an ever-changing wall map with Golden Arches that illuminate when an item from a specific country is featured on the menu.
