Possible Health Risk Prompts Organic Green Beans Recall

Front Royal, Virginia, USA-based Nature’s Touch Frozen Foods is voluntarily recalling 10-ounce (283-gram) bags of organic fine whole green beans due to potential contamination with Listeria monocytogenes. The action was announced on November 7 after a routine check by the Connecticut Department of Consumer Protection found one positive result of the bacteria in a random sample.

organic fine whole green beans 10ozNature’s Touch personnel are working in collaboration with the US Food and Drug Administration (FDA) to recall the product (UPC Code: 8 73668 00141 8; Best Before Dates: June 4, 2017 to June 21, 2019), which has been distributed to three retail chains in Connecticut, Delaware, Maine, Massachusetts, Maryland, New Hampshire, New Jersey, New York, Pennsylvania, Rhode Island, Vermont and Virginia. All affected retailers have been contacted to ensure that the packs are being removed from store shelves.

Listeria monocytogenes is an organism that may cause serious and sometimes fatal infections in young children, frail or elderly people, and others with weakened immune systems. Although healthy individuals may suffer only short-term symptoms such as high fever, severe headache, stiffness, nausea, abdominal pain and diarrhea, Listeria infection can cause miscarriages and stillbirths among pregnant women.

To date, there have been no reported illnesses associated with the product that is the subject of this recall. Other items in company’s extensive frozen vegetable and fruit range are not affected.
