Nearly a third of British consumers prefer to share dishes when eating out, according to research, and Farm Frites’ new Spanish sharing option taps into this trend with Patata Brava.

The Oudenhoorn, Holland headquartered company is making the frozen, pre-fried product available in one-kilo (2.2-pound) bags. The potato cubes, which can be enhanced with a range of toppings such as spicy chorizo and seasonings, caters to growing demand for Mediterranean cuisine in Britain while recognizing that eating out is now often considered more sociable than functional.

Also handy as a side dish, recipe ingredient, as a sharing option with dips, or even as part of a kid’s mini roast, the consistently-sized, large-cut cubes (25x25x18mm) can be oven cooked in 15-20 minutes, deep fried in 4-5 minutes, and pan fried in 12-15 minutes.

140311 FarmFrites-Patata-BravasAccording to Nick Townsend, Farm Frites’ marketing manager for the UK and Ireland, results from Allegra’s Taste of the Future survey revealed that 6% and 3% of foodservice professionals interviewed said they thought Mediterranean and Spanish cuisines, respectively, were the most prevalent for consumers eating out today. Furthermore, the figures shot up to 24% and 17% when consumers were asked what cuisines would be most prevalent in 2020.

“Our new Patatas Brava offering provides caterers with an authentic way to rustle up tapas and meet demand for sharing options, bar foods, sliders, platters and tasters, with fewer ingredients to source and the option of many add-ons – from sauces and dips to seasonings and shakes,” said Townsend.

Allergen-free, the product should also appeal to people who have been diagnosed with Celiac disease, as well as those making a lifestyle choice to eat gluten-free food to improve digestion.

Distribution to foodservice customers is in units of twelve bags per case.
