Frozen Poultry in US Coldstores Up a Bit in March; Red Meat Stocks Down

The USDA’s National Agricultural Statistics Service (NASS) reports that total frozen poultry product volume in cold storage on March 31, 2021 was up slightly from the previous month, but down 17 percent from a year ago. Chicken stocks were down 4 percent from the previous month, and off by 20 percent from last year. Total pounds of turkey in freezers was up 9 percent over February, but down 10 percent from March 31, 2020.

Red Meat

Total red meat supplies in freezers declined 6 percent from the previous month, and were down 17 percent from last year. Beef poundage in cold storage warehouses was down 6 percent from February, and off 4 percent from last year. Frozen pork supplies were down 7 percent from the previous month and down 27 percent from last year. Stocks of pork bellies declined 6 percent from last month and down 55 percent from last year.

Fruit and Vegetable Stocks

Total frozen fruit stocks in warehouses were down 10 percent from last month and off by 17 percent from a year ago. Frozen vegetable stocks were down 10 percent from last month, but up 1 percent from a year ago.
