The Canadian Food Inspection Agency (CFIA) has announced the recall of Hải Yến Ocean Swallow Frozen Shredded Young Coconut in Alberta, British Columbia and Manitoba due to possible Salmonella contamination. Imported by Edmonton-based Dong Phuong Distributor, the product is packed in 400-gram bags bearing UPC code number 8 115170 091856, Lot No. F2-23 11358 and Best Before date of 2025.OC.01.

There have been no reports of illnesses associated with eating the product, which should be thrown out or returned to the place of purchase for a refund.

Consumption of food contaminated with Salmonella can cause salmonellosis, one of the most common bacterial foodborne illnesses. Symptoms of infection are diarrhea, nausia, abdominal cramps and fever within six hours to six days after eating the contaminated product. The illness usually lasts four to seven days. Most people recover without treatment. Older adults, infants, and persons with weakened immune systems are more likely to develop a severe illness.
