Hear! Hear! It’s OK to Get a Beer Again at the Pub, Perhaps Chased with a Smoothie the Morning After

With pubs reopening in the United Kingdom on July 4, many Brits have been heading back to their favorite public house for the first time in over three months of a government-imposed lockdown to curb the spread of novel coronavirus (SARS-CoV-2) infections plaguing the country. While not allowed to belly up to the bar due to the “one-meter-plus” social distancing rule, social drinkers are relying on table service as never before.

To help manage morning after slumps for tipplers who may have overindulged following long hibernation at homes, the Aldi supermarket chain has released a series of “pick me up” smoothie recipes to counter tiredness, heatstroke and dehydration. And frozen components figure as main ingredients in most of the concoctions, starting with the Avocado and Berry Power Smoothie (pictured above).

Another option is the energizing Green Cleansing Juice Smoothie, filled with kiwi, celery, cucumber and spinach. Then there the Mango, Pineapple and Kale Smoothie, an especially healthy, refreshing and tasty way to kick-start the day.

The recipes follow.

Avocado and Berry Power Smoothie

Ingredients

1 x ripe avocado

130g x 4 Seasons frozen summer fruits – defrosted

300ml Almond Drink

10ml Honey

Juice x 1 lime

Method

Halve the avocado, remove and discard the stone and scoop out the flesh

Put all the ingredients into a blender and blend till smooth and creamy

Serve immediately

Green Cleansing Juice Smoothie

Ingredients

½ Cucumber

2 x golden kiwi fruits

1 x stick celery

100g baby spinach leaves

300ml apple juice

4g fresh mint

Method

Peel the cucumber – cut into half lengthway and scoop out the seeds and discard – chop the flesh into small chunks

Cut the kiwis in half and scoop out the flesh with a teaspoon – discard the skins

Chop the celery into small chunks

Put all the ingredients into a blender and blend till smooth

Mango, Pineapple and Kale Smoothie

Ingredients

200g Mango Chunks

200g Pineapple Chunks

30g Curly Kale

200ml Rio D’Oro Apple juice

Method

Chop the kale finely.

Put all the ingredients into a food processor and pulse till well blended and serve.
