Imported New Zealand Lamb Shoulder Subject to Recall in USA

AFFCO USA is recalling approximately 24,461 pounds of frozen raw lamb shoulder products imported from its Horotiu, New Zealand processing facility, a unit of the Talley’s Group, that were not presented for import re-inspection upon entering the United States, according to the USDA’s Food Safety and Inspection Service (FSIS).

The items were imported on July 12, 2021, in cardboard boxes weighing between 33 and 39 pounds, each containing frozen raw lamb square cut shoulder bone-in products with the shipping mark M1353023 and New Zealand establishment seal “SPM135.” They were shipped to distributors in Florida, Michigan, Missouri, New York and Pennsylvania for sale to retailers.

The re-inspection lapse was discovered during routine FSIS surveillance activities of imported products. There have been no confirmed reports of adverse reactions due to consumption of the lamb in question.

FSIS is concerned that some of the mutton may be in home freezers or refrigerators. Consumers who have purchased these products are urged not to consume them. They should be thrown away or returned to the place of purchase for a refund.

Consumers with questions about the recall may contact Andrew Kopic, President of AFFCO USA, by calling 904-263-4971.

AFFCO New Zealand Limited exports more than  150,000 tons of grass-fed lamb and beef products to over 80 countries each year. It has a network of offices across Europe and Asia as well as the United States.
