Lineage Logistics officially opened its fully automated Cool Port II cold storage facility at the Port of Rotterdam in the Netherlands on November 23. The deep-freeze high bay warehouse offers 60,000 pallet locations, three truck unloading systems and a full range of services to safely store food and bring temperature-sensitive products to market.

Situated at Europe’s largest sea port, its co-location next to Cool Port I gives customers the option of tri-modal connections by sea, rail and road, connecting Lineage’s growing network from Europe to the United Kingdom, Ireland, Scandinavia and beyond.

The facility features the industry’s most advanced automation technology which addresses labor volatility, provides fast and efficient service to clients and reduces energy consumption. Cool Port II employs data-driven solutions to optimize energy usage, with precision cooling cycles minimizing power leakage and a high-rise design that maximizes storage density and reduces energy footprint. The site is up to 45% more energy efficient than a conventional cold storage warehouses.

President Harld Peters speaks during the opening ceremony the Cool Port II coldstore.

“Our new facility highlights a best-in-class approach that makes Lineage a unique and forward-looking partner for our customers,” said Harld Peters, the company’s president of operations in Europe. “The aim is to be a driving force behind greening the supply chain, investing in our people and our facilities to deploy the very latest in cold storage technology.”

As a Climate Pledge signatory, Lineage is committed to achieving net-zero carbon emissions across its operations by 2040.

“We are proud to open this state-of-the-art warehouse, a multi-modal facility that is well connected by road, rail and barges and the only coldstore in Rotterdam connected with the Short Sea Terminals. We aim to provide Lineage’s customers easy access to a strong and growing network to deliver their product safely and efficiently,” said Mark Ketelaar, Lineage Logistics’ regional vice president for the Benelux region.
