Lineage Inc. has officially opened a fully automated cold storage warehouse in Hazle Township, Pennsylvania. A well attended ribbon-cutting ceremony took place to mark the occasion on October 29.
With approximately 60 million people, or about 18% of the United States population living within a 250-mile radius of Hazleton, the new warehouse is strategically positioned to deliver added value for Lineage’s customers and their consumers. It also complements the Novi, Michigan-headquartered company’s existing network of cold stores in Pennsylvania.
The Hazleton facility spans approximately 386,000 square feet and offers 85,000 pallet positions for handling and storing temperature controlled food. The building is equipped with cranes and rail-guided vehicles which are used to efficiently move and retrieve and products. Additionally, automated layer picking is featured and inbound lanes boast proprietary computer vision technology that automates the receiving process for greater speed and accuracy.
“Finding solutions to problems in the food supply chain by using innovation is at the heart of everything we,” said Sudarsan Thattai, chief information officer and chief transformation officer. “To us, innovation is not just a buzzword but a driving force behind our efforts to create a better and stronger supply chain. The Hazleton facility marks another significant addition to our automated network.”
Ranked as the world’s largest global temperature controlled warehouse operator, Lineage has over 480 facilities with over 84 million square feet and approximately 3 billion cubic feet of capacity across countries in North America, Europe and Asia-Pacific.
