Lineage has announced that the expansion of its coldstore in Hobart, Indiana, USA should be completed by the summer of 2025. The project will transform the site with the addition of a fully automated facility spanning more than 188,000 square feet offering approximately 58,000 pallet positions. It will feature advanced automation capabilities for inbound, outbound, and layer picking.

“The expansion will allow us to better serve our customers delivering to retail and foodservice markets,” said Greg Bryan, chief integrated solutions officer of Novi, Michigan-headquartered Lineage. “Not only will this major investment bring more automation and innovation to our network, but it will also help to accelerate our efforts with the Velocities MVC program that has proven successful in optimizing customer shipments and scheduled deliveries.”

The company’s Velocities Multi-Vendor Consolidation (MVC) program offers a comprehensive logistics solution for retail and foodservice customers, seamlessly integrating transportation and warehousing services. It optimizes inventory management, consolidating customer shipments into efficient truckloads, providing cost-effective shared truckload delivery, improving lead times and streamlining operations through a single 3PL provider.

The existing Hobart facility, situated approximately 40 miles southeast of Chicago, is already home to one of the region’s Velocities MVC programs and serves as a link in the company’s Canada cross border program. The expansion of the site will help centralize these operations and provide additional capacity for customers, improving efficiencies in supply chains to provide enhanced service and opportunities for growth.

It is anticipated that the Hobart site will have nearly 100,000 traditional and automated pallet position spaces and 76 dock doors in place after the expansion is complete. More than 100 new jobs are expected to be created as a result of this project.
