McCain brand Veggie Fingers, Veggie Burger Patties, Veggie Nuggets, Aloo Tikki and Masla Fries are among nine retail items that have been recalled from distribution in the United Kingdom. The products, imported from McCain Foods India and distributed by a third party, were reportedly “not properly assessed” for the UK market.

The recall was initiated after it was discovered that a limited quantity of packages entered the marketplace in Britain and were being sold from 20 convenience stores. Upon scrutinizing the situation, McCain Foods GB confirmed an error in the compliance check process. While the products fully adhere to Indian market regulations, they were not thoroughly assessed prior distribution in Britain. As such, there is the risk of potential presence of UK-specific allergens and preservatives.

“We take the safety and well being of our customers extremely seriously and are recalling these products out of an abundance of caution. We apologize for the inconvenience caused,” stated a McCain spokesman.

In addition to the items identified above, the four other products subject to recall are McCain Chilli Garlic Potato Bites (420g), French Fries Pepper Crunch (420g), Crazy Fries Hot N Tangy Masala Mix (400g) and Crazy Fries Herb n Garlic Masala Mix (400g).

The company has withdrawn almost 25,000 packages from the market. Out of a total of 43,663 packs, 18,671 were purchased by shoppers before the removal action began. Customers who may have the specified SKUs in home freezers are advised not to consume the contents. The products should be returned to the place of purchase for a full refund.
