Nacho Fries are returning to Taco Bell menus in the United States for a limited time starting December 24. This will mark the second time this year the popular side dish makes an encore.

“In a year as difficult and uncertain as this one was, we know that consumers crave the comforts they love most. That’s why we’re excited to bring them back to close out this year and kick off 2021 positively and deliciously,” said Nikki Lawson, chief global brand officer of the Irvine, California-headquartered quick service restaurant chain. “The magic extends beyond the menu item itself, and is brought to life with our next saga of the Nacho Fries movie franchise that we hope brings some seasonal – and seasoned – joy to fans like only we can.”

The product was first introduced to Taco Bell customers in January of 2018 and quickly became the brand’s most successful menu item. Over 347 million servings of Nacho Fries have been sold to date, and the fries have been reimagined multiple times with tasty innovations like Steak Rattlesnake Fries, Reaper Ranch Fries and Buffalo Chicken Nacho Fries. All are seasoned with Mexican spices and served with a side of warm nacho cheese sauce.

Nacho Fries disrupted the foodservice fry front two year ago, challenging the traditional ketchup convention with a nacho cheese sauce pairing and the addition of Mexican spices. While many foodservice operators, including Taco Bell, have trimmed menus during the novel coronavirus (SARS-CoV-2) pandemic, Nacho Fries prove that innovations can always make a comeback.

Meanwhile, the sixth chapter of the cinematic trailer style ad creative, entitled “The Craving” and starring Sarah Hyland and Joe Keery, explores the journey of a Nacho Fry-obsessed protagonist and his intensifying desire for Taco Bell’s craveable creation as the potato plot thickens. Each addition to this franchise, produced in partnership with Deutsch LA, has followed a new, culturally relevant thematic iteration of the Nacho Fries saga.

Nacho Fries will be available a la carte for $1.39, and in a $5 box featuring Nacho Fries, a beefy five-layer burrito, a crunchy taco and a medium size fountain drink.
