Galant Food Company, a San Leandro, California-based company, is recalling approximately 410 pounds of beef products because the meat filling used in its recipes did not meet cooking critical limit standards, according to the US Department of Agriculture’s Food Safety and Inspection Service (FSIS).

Items subject to the recall include 4.5-oz. frozen Galina’s Original Beef and Cheese Piroshki (12 or 24 per case, with case codes 092214, 092314 and 092414) and 5-oz. refrigerated Paramount Beef Piroshki (25 per case, with case codes 092314).

The Russian-style, gourmet pie products, which bear the establishment number “EST.9014,” were produced from September 22-24, 2014, and then shipped to a retailer in the San Francisco Bay area and a distributor in northern California.

The problem was discovered by Food Safety and Inspection Service personnel who were recently at the factory reviewing records. Neither FSIS nor the manufacturer have received reports of adverse illnesses due to consumption of these products.

FSIS routinely conducts checks to verify that recalling firms notify their customers of the recall and that steps have been taken to make certain that the product is no longer available in the marketplace.
