Frozen private label products fared well in Trader Joe’s 17th Annual Customer Choice Awards competition, garnering four first place prizes including #1 Overall kudos, which went to the the Monrovia, California-headquartered grocery chain’s Steamed Pork & Ginger Soup Dumplings. Distributed in 170g packs, it features savory ground pork and ginger, accented by rich and savory broth, nestled in tender dough wrappers.
Runners-up for the top honor included Butternut Squash Mac & Cheese, Steamed Chicken Soup Dumplings, Sourdough Bread, and Butter Chicken with Basmati Rice.
Store brand frozen Creamy Spinach & Artichoke Dip topped all rivals in the Appetizer category. The dip features a mix of said vegetables plus Swiss and Parmesan cheeses, savory herbs and spices.
Respectively placing second through fifth in the voting were Japapeno & Cream Cheese Wontons, Vegetable Bird’s Nests with Soy Dipping Sauce, Parmesan Pastry Pups and Greek Spanikopita.
On the Lunch & Dinner menu, customers said there’s nothing better than Trader Joe’s Butter Chicken with Basmati Rice. The authentic Indian recipe features tender chunks of chicken in a rich, silky, tomato-and-onion-based sauce, accented by garlic, ginger, and spices. From freezer to table, it’s ready to serve in just ten minutes.
Runners-up in the Lunch & Dinner category were Steamed Pork & Ginger Soup Dumplings, Chicken Tikka Masala, Butternut Squash Mac & Cheese, and Steamed Chicken Soup Dumplings.

Sublime Ice Cream Sandwiches took first prize in the Sweet Treat competition. The product boasts vanilla ice cream, chewy cookies and chocolate chips. Placing second through fifth in the voting, respectively, were: Almond Danish Kringle Pastry, Chocolate Hold the Cone! Mini Ice Cream Cones, Chocolate Chip Hold the Cone! Mini Ice Cream Cones, and Mint Chip Ice Cream.
