Berta Redondo Benito has been named secretary general of Europatat, the European Potato Trade Association, effective September 1. She succeeded Raquel Izquierdo de Santiago, who led the Brussels, Belgium-based organization for the past six years.

Benito, a Spanish national, holds a journalism degree from the University of Valladolid in Spain. She has a solid professional background in agricultural communication and European affairs.

The new secretary-general has already worked for more than two and a half years at Europatat, and is thus familiar with its members and appreciative of the association’s culture.

“It is a great honor for me to be given this opportunity to represent such an important sector in Europe at such an exciting time,” said Benito. “I am keen to embark in this new responsibility and continue the proactive work of the Europatat Secretariat of the past years.”

Europatat President Gilles Fontaine commented: “We are delighted to appoint Berta as the new secretary general. Since joining the association in 2018, she has constantly proven her value. We are sure that she will become an essential asset for the development of Europatat and the potato sector in the broadest sense.”
