Shenandoah, Pennsylvania, USA-based Atteco, Inc. is voluntarily recalling specific lots of its Mrs. T’s brand Mozzarella, Tomato & Basil Pierogies to assure consumer safety. The products in question may be contaminated with plastic, which could present a choke hazard.

ucm436092The frozen pierogies were packed in 16-ounce boxes containing 12 pieces (UPC 4116400042) that were distributed to retail grocery stores in New England states, New York, Pennsylvania, New Jersey, Delaware, Maryland, Washington DC, Virginia and Illinois. Packaging carries “Best By” dates of 05/20/16 and 07/15/16.

The recall was initiated after the manufacturer found plastic in the filling of pierogies during a quality assurance check. It quickly notified the US Food and Drug Administration (FDA) and is cooperating fully with the agency.

To date, Atteco has received no reports from consumers of any adverse reactions associated with this lot or other varieties or lots of Mrs. T’s pierogies. People who possess affected products are welcome to return them to the place of purchase for a full refund, or to contact Atteco at 1-800-743-7649 from 8 AM to 4:30 PM EST, Monday through Friday.
