Européenne De La Mer, a Thai Union Europe subsidiary that produces salmon and smoked fish products, has announced  plans to close its factory in Dąbrowa Chełmińska, near Bydgoszcz, Poland.

This decision was taken after numerous reviews and investments, according to the company, as the plant continues to be uncompetitive in relation to rival players on the European market. Heavy losses have reportedly been incurred amid challenging business conditions.

The workforce, which numbers approximately 200 employees who have been briefed on the pending closure, will be provided with support to assist them throughout shutdown process.

The Dąbrowa Chełmińska facility maintains a number of long-standing customer and supplier relationships, and Européenne De La Me is committed to working closely with each of them in order to successfully deliver contracted orders and assist in a smooth transition. If need be, alternative supply arrangements will be made going forward.

“We would like to thank everyone for their support and understanding. In particular, we would like to thank our employees for their hard work and professionalism at this difficult time,” stated the company in a press release issued on October 1.
